The scene we chose to reenact was from Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” The first reason we chose this play was because it was easily accessible (I had a copy of the play in my room). We also chose the play because, while it definitely has its absurdist elements, the play centers itself around a study of the individual and the ways people navigate their relationships with others. “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” particularly examines the institution of marriage and the complex ways married individuals interact with one another. Realism also situates itself within the major themes of the play since there is an inherent dichotomy between reality and illusion in the play’s course of events.

In terms of acting preparation, Ruva and I read through the scene once together before filming the scene to make sure we had practiced (and given some thought) to the emotional and psychological intention behind the characters and their lines. Outside of that, we didn’t do much else to prepare since the scene is fairly straightforward.
